Product Review: Dairy Queen Non-Dairy Dilly Bar

Spread the love

Updated June 3, 2020 to reflect the information we received from Dairy Queen fan relations regarding Dairy Queen’s new non-dairy dilly bar.

Disclosure: We were not affiliated with Dairy Queen at the time of this post.

We are thrilled about Dairy Queen’s new vegan Dilly bar! REALLY THRILLED!

Our sons have never eaten at a local ice cream parlor without a reaction. (These visits occurred pre-diagnosis). Even if we visit an ice cream parlor with non dairy options, we usually cannot eat the ice cream due to cross contamination. I worked at a local ice cream chain for years, and scoops are often used with all ice creams without discretion. If you are lucky, you might be able to find an ice cream shop that is allergy friendly and will change gloves, use a clean scoop, and open a new ice cream tub just for you. I’ll be honest. The only place we experienced this was located next to a castle in Florida that has an upbeat mouse running the joint. We LOVE Disney, but we can’t go there each time we’re hankering for some ice cream.

Our review of Dairy Queen’s Non-Dairy Dilly Bars

Allergy Wise: Dairy Queen’s Non-Dairy Dilly Bars are individually packaged. Individual packaging means no cross contamination via the restaurant. YAY! DQ’s Dilly Bars are nut free, dairy free, and gluten free. However, these bars are not for anyone with soy allergies.

Dear Heather,

Thank you for contacting International Dairy Queen, Inc. (IDQ) with your inquiry. We are very excited about our new Non-Dairy Dilly® Bars!

Our new Non-Dairy Dilly Bar, made with coconut cream, is available nationwide in the United States.

While all Dilly Bars are made on the same manufacturing line, the line undergoes a sanitation process between making each flavor. At that point the line is tested for allergens, and requires a successful allergen-free verification test before production proceeds. Please be sure that your desired treat is in a closed cellophane package when purchasing, that way you will be sure that you have a factory prepared novelty.

Taste: I grew up with DQ Dilly Bars so I can offer a solid review of the non-dairy product. Dairy Queen created a good vegan alternative to the original Dilly Bar. The chocolate coating on the Dairy Queen’s Non-dairy Dilly Bar is spot on. It cracked when I bit into it, the melt was as expected, and so was the taste of the chocolate. The ice cream, while coconut based, is barely reminiscent of coconut. It imparts a slight coconut taste as would be reasonably expected in a product that is trying to emulate dairy-based ice cream. It was fantastic.

Dairy Queen’s new Non-Dairy Dilly Bars are life changing (really!). We worry about the kids feeling excluded from summer memories such as getting ice cream on hot days with friends, celebrating team sports, or just going out for a treat. Our little ones are excluded from enough food-based activities that we are truly thankful have this option for them. More businesses should catch on! We are happy to have non-dairy Dilly Bars near us. Dairy Queen has our business.

Still hungry? Try our Mac and “Cheese” (click here) kid-approved, cheesy, and made of vegetables. Too good to be true? Well, you’ll just have to try it to believe it.
